The Kédougou region in Senegal has a significant potential in terms of natural resources and therefore, attracts many migrants, including women and children. However, its rugged terrain, presence of the mining industry and lack of health care professionals and facilities, increase health related risk factors. The objective of the project is to build the capacity of the health authorities in the pilot region of Kédougou and promote access to health care for migrants and vulnerable communities in the artisanal gold mining sites of this region. This objective will be achieved through the following outcomes: Health authorities include measures to reduce health risks in the targeted areas in their work plans and focus on factors that particularly affect women and children; The region of Kédougou strengthens its surveillance monitoring mechanism and capacity to address migrants and vulnerable communities' health care needs; Migrants and communities at risk adopt new behaviours through the enhancement of knowledge and dissemination of good practices related to health care.
