As indicated in the 2018 United States State Department Trafficking in Persons Report (US TIP Report), Eswatini is a country of source, destination, and transit for women and children trafficked internally and transnationally for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation, domestic servitude, and forced labour in agriculture. Emaswati girls, particularly orphans, are trafficked internally for commercial sexual exploitation and domestic servitude in the cities of Mbabane and Manzini, as well as to South Africa and Mozambique. Emaswati boys are trafficked for forced labour in commercial agriculture and market vending. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to prevention of trafficking in persons (TiP) and protection for all victims of Trafficking (VoTs) in Eswatini. To achieve this overall objective, IOM Eswatini will aim to strengthen protection to actual and potential VoTs in Eswatini through the following initiatives: consultations with the relevant ministries, police, non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), civil society and service providers to update the existing guidelines for key duty-bearers on victim identification, referral and protection. A training will be held to enhance the capacity of relevant identified stakeholders as well as service providers on proactive victim identification and the referral of identified victims to care. In addition, IOM will work with the existing Task Force for the Prevention of Human Trafficking and Smuggling and its Secretariat under the Office of the Prime Minister and will convene meetings at regular intervals to provide input into project activities and offer guidance.
