Technical Assistance for the Development of a National Migration Policy in Angola

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to an improved migration policy document that facilitates and supports migration management in Angola, and enhances the benefits of migration for national development.

At the request of the Angolan Ministry of Interior (MININT), IOM will provide guidance and technical support in drafting a comprehensive and evidence-based migration policy document in accordance with regional and international standards.

Activities will be integrated to the ongoing works of a special Ministerial technical commission that was established in late 2013 to develop the policy document, and will support:

-research that will map key stakeholders’ capacities and needs, resources available, as well as an analysis of countries with similar migration contexts;
-extensive capacity building for the commission through a series of migration management workshops, and exposure to implemented best policy practices;
-the facilitation of multi-disciplinary technical consultation and validation meetings;
-technical support for the initiation of the drafting of the policy through regular technical commission meetings; and
-wide political consultation on the draft migration policy.
