The overall objective of the project is to strengthen the Kazakhstan national and local capacity to manage migration in relation to water related challenges, in order to empower and protect migrants and their communities. The Project Steering Committee will be comprised of representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development, the Ministry of Agriculture, the local authority, Akimat, as well as the National Chamber of Employers.
Project outputs that will contribute towards this objective include: a baseline study on linkages between water resource management and migration in four regions of Kazakhstan (Mangistau, Kyzyl-Orda, South Kazakhstan and East Kazakhstan); two workshops on the Migration Crisis Operational Framework involving local authorities; as well as two training sessions targeting local authorities, civil society, mass media and private sector from the four targeted regions to raise awareness on climate change adaptation and the remaining gaps in Disaster Risk Reduction identified throughout the baseline study.
The proposed project contributes to the objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and is also in line with the Government of Kazakhstan’s priorities set out in the Kazakhstan 2050’s strategy.
