With migration being such a prominent factor of society today, governments are faced with the challenges to integrate the health needs of migrants into national plans, policies and strategies. Throughout the migration cycle, consistent efforts to ensure that migrant health needs are met are imperative for the inclusion of migrants into national health plans, as migration is a known social determinant of health that can impact the well-being of an individual, as well as the social and economic development of communities at large.
H.E. President Sirisena invited IOM to lead a Global Consultation on migrant health, to be hosted by Sri Lanka. This event will also be co-organized with WHO, as the leading international health agency. The Consultation will aim to contribute to engaging multi-sectoral partners reach consensus on priority areas and key policy strategies to mainstreaming migrant health and enabling an environment for meaningful policy change. The activities under this project will provide support and coordination to the Scientific Committee and the technical consultants, who will contribute to the completion of the background papers, which will guide the discussions of the Consultation, and final Report. These outputs will identify the gaps, mainstreaming opportunities and key policy strategies related to migration and health.
