The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) does not have a functioning entry & exit database at its borders, nor adequate infrastructure and trained personnel to meet these challenges. Therefore, this project seeks to contribute towards building the capacity of the DGM´s border management capabilities through:
i) Technical support for the implementation of a border management information system that will facilitate a pilot project of information recording and processing of migration data in two selected international airports: Silvio Pettirossi Airport and Guarani Airport. These processes will be conducted with the software implementation of IOM known as MIDAS (Migration Information & Data Analysis System) and using the hardware necessary for its operation. The new equipment will be installed by personnel with experience in the implementation of this system.
ii) The refurbishment of the cabins of the airports to be used for immigration enforcement and appropriate sign posting.
iii) Training of immigration officers working at border points as well as first line users (about 50 officers) and officers on duty / stations and IT specialists.
iv) Developing an action plan for subsequent phases of the project at land borders based on continuous monitoring and evaluation of the new system and equipment installed in the two selected airports.
It should be noted that the DGM will contribute USD 800,000 towards this project (equipment, infrastructure and connectivity).
