The Dominican Republic is a country of destination, transit but especially a source of migrants. The government has initiated the reorganization and modernization of the management and control of migration flows, in accordance to international practices and respect of migrants’ rights. Also, the Dominican authorities are committed to strengthening mechanisms to enhance the economic ties of its diaspora and the dignified reintegration upon return.
Although government institutions have been created and there is a private sector interest in advancing issues related to labour migration and a more active participation of the diaspora in the development of Dominican Republic, there is a need to strengthen the different initiatives and respective institutions.
The project will contribute to knowledge based policy analysis to promote the contribution of the diaspora to the development of the Dominican Republic. This will be possible through a strategy built on knowledge generation for the development of labour migration and migration and development policies and projects with the support of the private sector and in coordination with other relevant State institutions
