The People’s Republic of China became an IOM Member State on 30 June, 2016. While China holds extensive experience in migration-related issues and policies, it has primarily focused on internal migration. However, during the past years, China has become a source, transit and destination country for international migration. China fully recognizes that migration has become a key item in the international agenda at all levels. China intends to strengthen its new role in the global migration debate.
The Government of China is willing to further engage in the international migration agenda, specifically aligning the Chinese Government policies with the ongoing discussions of the Global Compact for Migration and becoming a key informed stakeholder on global migration issues.
The project activities, including, seminars, dialogues and consultations with different Chinese government authorities will enhance the knowledge of Chinese officials on the latest international migration trends and topics, including the Migration Crisis Operational Framework, the Migrants in Countries in Crisis Initiatives, the Migration Governance Framework, and the Global Compact for Migration.
The enhanced knowledge, skills and awareness by diverse Chinese government officials from different ministries and authorities on international migration practices will strengthen the capacity of the Government of China contributing to change in their institutional performance and enhance China’s role in the global migration dialogue.
