Counter Trafficking Projects
National
Completed
Despite the legislative achievements of the government of Kazakhstan to combat trafficking in persons in past years, additional efforts are needed in order to address institutional weaknesses, such as a lack of appropriate mechanisms and capacity of the national government in identification, referral and protection of victims of trafficking, especially women and children, as well as the lack of institutionalized state funding for anti-trafficking initiatives of non-governmental organizations and others. This project will contribute to strengthening the anti-trafficking response of Kazakhstan by contributing with research and recommendations to the National Action Plan (NAP) for 2015-2017.
In pursuit of this objective, IOM together with the National Commission on Human Rights (CHR) under the President of Kazakhstan, will assess the current anti-trafficking response of the country in accordance with international human rights standards, with a special focus on women’s and children’s rights; prepare a Special Report on Combating Trafficking in Persons in Kazakhstan; and provide recommendations for future anti-trafficking activities to the Government (NAP for 2015-2017).
