The project aims to capitalize on the experience and achievements of the border police in Mauritania, which has made significant progress over the past years, to the benefit of border management services in Mali. Eighteen border crossing points have been constructed along Mauritania’s borders, mostly in the south, of which twelve by IOM Nouakchott. Many border police officers have benefited from the design and implementation of the beginning of a border management training curriculum. Unfortunately, progress on international cooperation with its neighbours remains underdeveloped. This project proposal aims to address this weakness by utilizing Mauritania’s expertise in order to increase the capacity of border management officials in neighbouring Mali. Concretely, the project aims to 1) refurbish the border crossing point in Gogui (Kayes) in Mali, which is the counterpart of the recently constructed border post in Gogui Mauritania; 2) Provide equipment that allows for the electronic registration of cross-border flow of passengers in the Migrant Information and Data Analysis System (MIDAS) ; 3) Joint training of border management officials on the Mauritanian and the Malian side by trainers from the Mauritanian border police on administrative and operational border management procedures and 4) Provide training on joint patrols along the border.
