The project will conduct an assessment of the potential change in migration patterns of Myanmar migrants in Thailand. The first step will entail a quantitative survey of 6,000 respondents complemented with qualitative interviews of 100 respondents including migrants, employers and host communities in six provinces with a high concentration of migrant workers engaging in various employment sectors. The aim of this assessment is to understand the aspirations and concerns of migrants towards their eventual return and reintegration in Myanmar, and, based on these results, to come up with likely scenarios of the impacts these changing migration patterns could have on Thailand. The second step will bring together policy makers, including officials from various departments, such as the National Security Council, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Labour to a closed-door consultation workshop on the results of the assessment. This will consequently be compiled into one conclusive report of the findings and analysis, and a set of recommendations to be made available to a limited group of stakeholders, including the Royal Thai Government and donors.
