This project aims to offer young Senegalese an alternative to illegal migration by promoting the creation of employment opportunities in the environmental and ecological sector, a sector that has shown promise in job creation and as an alternative to illegal migration from southern Senegal. This project will be carried out in four phases. An assessment of employment opportunities will take place in order to obtain a better understanding of the current employment situation in the Environmental Sector to include areas of recycling, composting, renewable energy, bio products and ecotourism. The assessment will be carried in the four geographical areas (Kébémer, Pikine, Tambacounda and Ziguinchor) which are experiencing serious out migration. Following the assessment, activities to reinforce national employment structures’ capacities will take place as well as the implementation of pilot projects in the four geographical areas to create employment opportunities. The project will also include a final report on employment opportunities, training of government officials in this sector and the professional integration of selected young Senegalese within the pilot projects. A final workshop involving all the stakeholders will present the results of the project and will be followed by the publication of these results on the website.
