Bulgaria Reception Centre for Vulnerable Migrants

Developed at the request of the Government of Bulgaria, in close cooperation with existing State structures and networks, IOM established a Reception Centre for vulnerable migrants apprehended in Bulgaria. As part of the social services network, the centre accepts referrals of vulnerable migrants, particularly women and children, from migration authorities and offers secure accommodation and assistance until a decision is made regarding the status and future options available to the migrants. IOM then supports the integration or voluntary return of migrants as appropriate. IOM anticipates an expansion of activities related to the centre, particularly pertaining to assistance to victims of trafficking, and further return and reintegration services to potential assisted voluntary return cases.
