Migration Profile: Timor-Leste

The objective of the proposed project is to contribute to good migration governance that enhances national programming, planning and policymaking in Timor-Leste. The development of a migration profile will increase awareness of migration information and data as a national resource, and its potential to be effectively utilized and mainstreamed for national actions in the area of migration, mobility and development. The migration profile will contribute to a better understanding of current internal and international migration trends through the collection and analysis of age- and gender-disaggregated migration data, and improve the knowledge base of how population mobility impacts social and economic dynamics.

The project’s main outcome is 'stakeholders strengthen national programming, planning and policymaking through improved collection and management of migration information and data'. The migration profile will adequately incorporate various dimensions of migration to provide an overview addressing trends and key features, the impact of migration, labour migration and economic development, international and regional cooperation, and identify key findings, policy implications and recommendations. Throughout this process, capacity building activities will be conducted with key government actors and other relevant stakeholders involved in migration governance to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to utilize the migration profile’s findings and recommendations.
