For more than a decade, the shortage of qualified health professionals, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, has constituted a major constraint to the overall development of the region and impedes the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially goal number three, related to good health and well-being.
Being one of the poorest countries in Africa, Guinea is particularly affected by this shortage, which, in addition, has worsened due to the crisis of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
The objective of this project is therefore to support the Government of Guinea in order to develop and implement a diaspora engagement strategy in the public health care sector.
More specifically, the project aims to:
• Set up an institutional framework involving the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others, through the establishment of a Steering Committee;
• Train key ministries and relevant actors on migration and health as well as strengthen their awareness on the importance of mobilizing the diaspora;
• Conduct a study tour in a sub-Saharan country to exchange best practices; and finally,
• Develop and validate a road map which will pave the way to engage and mobilize the Guinean diaspora in the development of the country’s health sector.
