The objective of this project is to contribute to the development and improvement of individual and institutional gender mainstreaming mechanisms within the Tajik Border Force. The project will be implemented in close collaboration with the latter, which has already been involved in the project design phase through consultations with IOM staff.
Project outputs that will contribute towards this objective include: a gender self-assessment conducted by the Tajik Border Force to research institutional culture related to gender themes; the development of an Action Plan on Gender Mainstreaming; as well as the organization of a high-level consultative working group with the Border Forces senior management to initiate the implementation of a gender-sensitive policy.
Finally, through a pilot training session, the project will aim to facilitate change in the attitudes of individual border guards with regards to gender issues.
Given that gender mainstreaming is included in the National Strategy of the Border Force Department of the Government of Tajikistan 2012-2017, this project is particularly well suited to the policy agenda. The Tajik Border Force will be actively engaged in successfully delivering the project and therefore enhancing ownership of the process.
