Counter Trafficking Projects
Regional
Completed
This project aims to strengthen cooperation between and capacity of the MERCOSUR countries to combat human trafficking and to improve the conditions of migrant women and girls. Specifically, this project will have five components, in line with existing regional MERCOSUR commitments:
1) Organize a Meeting of Ministers and High Authorities on Women (RMAAM) on counter-trafficking;
2) Develop a study on migrant women and cities in the region;
3) Support the Specialized Forum on Migration (FEM);
4) Translate and validate material on trafficking in persons into Portuguese;
5) Facilitate the exchange of good practices within the region through South-South cooperation.
The project will be implemented in line with IOM standards and principles with regards to human rights, gender and sustainability. Finally, the project will focus on knowledge management, in order to document and disseminate global and regional practices within MERCOSUR. All costs related to non-eligible Member States will be covered by the Technical Cooperation in the Area of Migration (PLACMI) in Latin America programme.
