Zambia Migration Profile: Supporting Evidence-Based Migration-Related Policy Making and Planning in Zambia

The Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) has requested the assistance of the IOM to strengthen its capacity to collect, analyse and utilize migration data, and ultimately to prepare a Migration Profile.

This project has the overall objective of supporting evidence-based policy making in Zambia, and will include support to mainstreaming migration data into migration and related policymaking and planning processes. Through the project, the first stage of this process will be the collection and analysis of existing migration-related data in Zambia. IOM and partners will collect, analyze, and report on existing migration-related data that is currently scattered across a wide range of ministries, departments, and agencies. This effort will also allow IOM and partners to highlight critical data gaps and propose ways to address long-term data collection and management practices. The project will map out a methodology for future on-going migration data collection, sharing, and analysis, taking into consideration gender-sensitive data, and will lay the foundation for the production of a comprehensive Migration Profile through a follow-up project. Government officials directly engaged in the collection of this type of information will be directly involved in the collection and compilation of data.
