One of the main IOM strategies in South America is to support the protection of migrants’ human rights in the framework of the regional integration process in the MERCOSUR. The main objective of this project is therefore to strengthen the capacity of the MERCOSUR Member States and the Associated States to ensure the protection of human rights of migrants including vulnerable groups. Specifically, the project will have three outputs:
1) A manual on the protection of migrants’ human rights;
2) A diagnostic report of the Haitian migration towards the Member States of the MERCOSUR and the Associated States;
3) A case study of the conditions of access to economic, social and cultural rights of the MERCOSUR migrants in the Municipality of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Finally, this project, co-funded by the MERCOSUR Institute of Public Policies on Human Rights, will provide the MERCOSUR Member States and the Associated States with knowledge and tools to better design public policies and services for regional and Haitian migrants.
