Counter Trafficking Projects

In February 2015, Nicaragua adopted Law 896 on trafficking in persons. In addition, consular protection responsibilities were transferred from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Interior (MoI). MoI also chairs the National Coalition Against Trafficking in Persons.
In light of the recent reforms on the care for victims of trafficking, as well as the investigation of this crime, this project will:
1) Strengthen the capacities of the specialized institutions for the provision of comprehensive care and protection services for victims of trafficking;
2) Enhance the capacities of the specialized institutions for the investigation and prosecution of human-trafficking related crime.
This project includes actions of capacity building through training as well as the provision of key equipment and support.
The project will be implemented in coordination with the MoI and involves institutions that participate in the National Coalition Against Trafficking in Persons. The proposed actions will be carried out in Managua, and will involve local actions in areas of high vulnerability to trafficking in persons.
