This project aims to support the efforts of the Government of Cameroon to strengthen the protection of domestic workers and victims of trafficking in Cameroon. Building upon Phase I, the project consists of four major components: (i) Strengthening the national legal framework for the protection of domestic workers in line with the standards promoted by the ILO Convention 189 on Domestic Work; (ii) Disseminating and enhancing understanding of the law against trafficking in persons which was adopted in December 2010; (iii) Establishing a referral system for victims of trafficking, including domestic workers who are victims of trafficking; and (iv) Raising the awareness of local authorities and communities on the rights of domestic workers and the law against trafficking in persons. It is expected that by the end of this project, the national legal framework concerning domestic work and trafficking in persons will be strengthened, better known and implemented. Domestic workers and victims of trafficking will be increasingly aware of their rights and national and local authorities will have a stronger capacity to offer adequate assistance.
