Facilitated Migration Services
National
Completed
This project aims to facilitate integration in the US and safe migration of Micronesian nationals through the creation of Migrant Resource Centres (MRC). Through the MRC, IOM and its Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Government partners will be able to deliver pre-departure orientation training, awareness raising on the risks of human trafficking, while also providing linkages to existing services in the receiving communities.
Organizations involved in the migration process, such as government departments, NGOs, community groups and faith-based organizations responsible for developing and implementing labour migration policy and practice will also benefit from the establishment of the centres. Migrants will benefit from a range of services either through direct access to a MRC in Pohnpei and through the information provided by the MRC network in the US and or other islands, via a migrant assistance hotline and a MRC website. Moreover, through services-oriented consultations and communication, trained resource persons will provide integrated services and information to empower intending, actual and returning migrants to make informed decisions about migrating from the FSM and thereby minimize the risks and maximize the benefits of their migration experience for both the sending and host countries.
