The Peruvian Government is of the view that the time is right to make a call to the G-77 group of countries for a World Conference, to be held on 20-21 April 2006, in order to elaborate a document that underscores the importance of international flows of migrants. People who migrate from less developed countries towards more developed countries generate a significant impact on both sending and destination countries.
The agreements expected to emerge from the ministerial meeting on migration are framed within the following issues:
New forms of labour migration
Migration and development: Remittances/ Brain Drain
Emphasizing the value of migrants’ moral, professional and human qualities.
Reaffirmation of migrants’ human rights
Fight against xenophobia and racism.
Migration and security
Peru, acting as host country for the Ministerial World Conference of Developing Countries, has requested IOM’s support to prepare for this Special Ministerial Conference. This will include the preparation of the background document through the hiring of experts on migration issues and logistics; and the invitation, transportation and hosting of speakers and other experts.
