Technical Support to the Development of a National Migration Policy in Nigeria

This project will initiate a process to establish a National Migration Policy for Nigeria. At the request of the Special Assistant to the President on Migration and Humanitarian Affairs, IOM will build the migration policy capacity of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which will establish an inter-ministerial technical committee of experts to produce the policy document.

The capacity building activities will be undertaken through a series of migration management workshops building on the Essentials of Migration Management, a technical exposure visit of selected inter-ministerial committee members to countries that have recently undertaken migration policy development, and will be complemented by a technical assessment outlining the current administrative and policy status of migration in Nigeria, and producing a detailed road map for the National Migration Policy development process. This assessment and resulting road map will be presented for endorsement at an inter-ministerial workshop.
