This regional project aims to assist Burkina Faso, Gabon, Mali, Mauritania and Senegal in their efforts at addressing document fraud, in particular:
1. A forensic office will be established in Burkina Faso, Gabon and Mali. These offices will be provided with relevant equipment for travel document inspection and officers will be trained in the use of the equipment.
2. A training course will also be organized in Dakar in coordination with the project partners, including ICAO, to train government officials from the benefitting Member States on document fraud. French and European document fraud experts will run the course, supported by IOM’s Passport Examination Procedure Manual
3. Two officers from each benefitting country will continue their training in Belgium and France for five days with the relevant authorities.
The total 1035 project budget is USD 150,000.
The project is co-financed by ICMPD and France and the 1035 Facility funding will in the majority cover the establishment of the forensic offices and provision of the equipment for Mali, Burkina Faso and Gabon.
