With increasing migration in the ECOWAS region, including significant irregular migration, as well as transnational criminal activity including drug smuggling, the improvement of border and migration management has become a high priority for the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL).
IOM will assist the GoSL to improve migration management through an expert assessment of needs and processes at selected border posts as well as the Immigration Headquarters.
This will be complemented by a training course for government officials with migration management responsibilities, with a focus on the specific migration issues of West Africa, such as irregular transit migration, displaced and often uprooted persons, labour migrants, trafficking and smuggling in human beings, migration and security, as well as the relevance of international migration legislation for adequate management of such a phenomenon.
