This project, which will be implemented in close collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), aims to strengthen the capacity of labour inspectors from the Governments of Mauritania, Mali and Senegal in order to contribute to better protection of migrant workers’ rights.
In the first phase, a baseline assessment on the situation of migrant workers will be conducted in the three target countries by the ILO. Based on the results of the baseline assessment, appropriate training modules will be developed by IOM with expert input from ILO. The resulting training session will be held to benefit at least 25 labour inspectors in each target country.
In order to encourage the transfer of skills acquired during the training to their work, labour inspectors will subsequently conduct a field survey on the situation of migrant workers in their respective work regions. Networks between the different national labour inspections will lead to closer collaboration, synergizing of efforts and thus greater effectiveness in the protection of migrant workers.
