Each year, hundreds of Hondurans leave the country without appropriate documentation and transit through Guatemala and Mexico to reach the United States of America. Poverty, unemployment, violence, and family reunification are just some of the reasons for this migration.
The objective of this project is to improve the protection of Hondurans migrants when transiting in Mexico by also strengthening the capacity of the Honduran Consular Services in Mexico.
Project outputs that will contribute towards this objective include:
• Strengthening the information and communication systems of the Honduran consular network in Mexico to improve in identification, assistance and referral mechanisms;
• Strengthening technical capacities and increasing knowledge of the General Directorate in order to protect Honduran migrants when transiting;
• Implementation of awareness raising campaigns regarding the risks and dangers of irregular migration, and provision of information about protection mechanisms and support networks established in Mexico.
