This pilot project is intended to raise the Dominican Government’s capacity to prepare for AVRR of vulnerable Haitian migrants and raise awareness within stakeholders. Capacity building will take the form of working with and training local counterparts from relevant Dominican Republic authorities. Alongside the project’s capacity building elements, the project will provide assistance for the voluntary return of some 80 irregular migrants and rejected asylum seekers from the Dominican Republic during a period of 6 months. This pilot project satisfies the 1035 Facility guidelines which exclude funding for Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) projects unless they include significant elements of government capacity building alongside the return component.
