This project seeks to strengthen the capacity of the Government of Georgia to put in place a full-fledged labour migration policy that complies with EU standards. The activities will focus primarily on building the capacity of key ministries to put in place legislation and policy mechanisms for the management of both outward and inward flows of migrant workers. The project will react to the new initiatives proposed by the European Commission in terms of mobility packages and circular migration, and will assist the Georgian government to draw up appropriate policy responses to these new challenges.
Another important component proposed under this project is the reaching out to potential migrant workers in Georgia with objective and updated information on the opportunities as well as limitations of labour migration to destination countries, thus providing support to the Migration Resource Centres that IOM has operated, but will transfer to the administration of a government entity as of early 2008 onwards.
