The governments of Ecuador and Peru have finalized in 2006 a bilateral agreement designed to facilitate the regularisation of irregular labour migrants working from both countries in the border regions. However, to date there has been a low level of sensitization regarding the agreement among migrants and other stakeholders, as well as low levels of awareness by relevant authorities involved in the regularisation process.
To facilitate the implementation of this agreement, a capacity building workshop will be arranged to train governmental and non governmental entities on the scope, objectives and the correct application of the agreement, as well as on migrant rights and fundamental freedoms. To complement this workshop, informational materials will be produced and disseminated to raise awareness regarding the existence and terms of this agreement. As a final product of this project, a guide will be produced on lessons learned and procedures to be undertaken within this regularization process.
