The objective of the project is to contribute to the successful integration of refugees who are settled in Nauru for up to ten years, by building the capacity of the Department of Multicultural Affairs (DoMA) to provide community-based integration services that facilitate mutual understanding between the host community and refugees. This will be achieved through three capacity-building interventions:
Under the first intervention, IOM will build DoMA’s capacity to develop and implement community sensitisation outreach campaigns and interventions in Nauru. Under the second intervention, another expert will be contracted to deliver training and provide capacity-building support to DoMA on designing and managing cross-cultural community integration projects through participatory methodology. The third intervention will focus on supporting and equipping DoMA with the critical resources and equipment to function effectively to provide needed services to refugees, as defined under the previous two interventions. This project responds to a Government of Nauru (GoN) request for support to assist in addressing the specific migration challenges faced in Nauru.
