This programme aims to assist Central Asian governments and neighbouring countries in building their capacity for migration management in their countries and as a region. A series of technical workshops will be held in the broad region, drawing from expertise within the region, from Western Europe including EU Member and Candidate countries, and from IOM. Complementing the technical activities, a series of informal consultations on migration will be held. Pilot activities including border improvement, assisted voluntary return, and information campaigns are included in the programme's implementation, as is the updating of baseline research on migration into and through the region. A "roadmap" will be created to guide further collaboration between the EU and the region in migration management. The specific 1035 facility co-funding will support:
- a technical workshop on legal and regulatory frameworks for migration management in Bishkek; and,
- an information campaign to be implemented in close collaboration with the governments and relevant ministries in order to disseminate information on realities of irregular migration.
