Counter Trafficking Projects

Increasing evidence highlighted by IOM country studies and reports has shown that economic migrants have lacked the knowledge to make well-informed migration and employment choices, and easily fall prey to cross-border networks of traffickers and smugglers. This programme aimed to contribute to stem key causes of trafficking in persons from Tajikistan, related to poor preparedness of economic migrants, through awareness raising.
IOM sustained four NGO hotlines for intending migrant workers and victims of trafficking in persons. Social workers from these NGOs were trained to operate hotlines. These NGOs were also involved in community outreach. One hundred thousand brochures, model counter-adds, a documentary, model radio programmes and mobile popular theatre were used to promote outreach.
