Zimbabwe is currently recovering from more than a decade of socio-economic and political challenges. Whereas Zimbabwe has a long history with cross border mobility, the macro challenges that Zimbabwe experienced from 2000 onwards, resulted in multiple and complex migration issues characterised by high levels of cross-border mobility and irregular migration.

The proposed project aims to contribute towards the Government of Zimbabwe (GoZ)’s capacity building efforts to better manage migration. With a view to strengthening border management in Zimbabwe, the project will assess the border management information systems (BMIS) currently in place in Zimbabwe and establish Integrated Border Management (IBM) mechanisms for managing border procedures in one coordinated security approach. The project will also support the drafting of the National Immigration Policy which will allow for improved capacity for the coordination, formulation and implementation of national migration policies and strategies. The expected outcomes include:

i. Improved capacity for the coordination, formulation and implementation of national migration policies and strategies; and
ii. Increased capacity of immigration and border authorities to mainstream and operationalize IBM concepts in migration management through a comprehensive migration and integrated border management model.
