According to the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Colombia is highly vulnerable to the effects of environmental degradation, climate variability and climate change. The Government has made some progress in developing and adopting policy instruments, such as the National Adaptation Plan to Climate change (NAP), the National System of Climate change (SISCLIMA, according to its Spanish acronym) and the CONPES 3700, to confront the impacts of climate change from different socio-economic perspectives in different regions of the country.
The objective of this project is to contribute to position Colombia as a leader in the creation of public policies which respond to the interaction between migration, environment, and climate change (MECC). The expected outcomes of this project include: the increased capacity of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MESD) to generate relevant evidence for the formulation of public policies and guidelines on the subject of migration, environment and climate change; and to ensure increased capacities and tools available to MESD which facilitate the incorporation of migratory considerations into adaptation strategies in national climate change policies.
