This project sets out to enhance the government’s capacity to prevent human smuggling by realizing the following three outcomes:
Firstly, the project will improve the Government of Ecuador’s knowledge concerning specific characteristics of human smuggling and its capacity to respond to it, by conducting a national baseline investigation. Based on this systematized information, the government will be able to prioritize regions and to better target their activities.
Secondly, and based on the insights of the baseline investigation, the project will elaborate a National Plan against human smuggling. This National Plan, constituting an official public policy, will support the government in taking action against human smuggling and in determining long-term strategies and responsibilities.
Thirdly, the most important findings of the investigation will be communicated to the public so that potential migrants are better informed about the risks and dangers, as well as their rights in the country of destination.
