Different Governmental entities, UN agencies and local/international NGOs in the South East Asia region, particularly those in Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam requested IOM’s participation in HIV/AIDS activities. These requests have been made because of IOM’s focus on improving the status of mobile populations, and the unique relationships that IOM has with government ministries and organisations catering to the needs of vulnerable mobile populations.
The IOM HIV/AIDS Focal Point position proposed provided technical assistance on HIV/AIDS issues to government and NGO staff working with mobile populations and HIV/AIDS issues in Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. This assistance will strengthen capacities to improve responses and contribute to the development of new approaches and identification/implementation of feasible projects, while engaging in new partnerships in the coordinated response to HIV/AIDS.
