The project responds to the challenges of border management in Mauritania. The project will support the government in creating and implementing a national integrated strategy for border management that comprises all relevant institutions. Through active participation in working groups, the agencies will propose measures to optimize and rationalize operating practices at the border. The project also supports the implementation of a strategy for procurement, delivery and installation of equipment.
Another important deliverable of the project, following an inter-agency consultative process, is the adoption of protocols on cooperation and exchange of information. A tangible representation of these protocols is the creation of a risk management database that gathers and combines the input of all participating agencies. This permits the devising of specific risk profiles for groups and for locations, allowing the officials at the border to utilize a systematic approach for profiling passengers and inspecting vehicles.
