The objective of this project is to enhance the engagement of the Ethiopian’s diaspora through the effective implementation of a diaspora policy to contribute to economic development in Ethiopia. The project will be implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Connecting with and identifying capacities and skills within the Ethiopian’s diaspora are pillars of this initiative.
Project outputs that will contribute towards this objective include: collecting qualitative and quantitative information on the Ethiopian’s diaspora in the United States of America; documenting the skills and resource needs in the health and education sectors in Ethiopia; developing a roadmap for medium and long-term interventions; and finally, organizing workshops to validate the deliverables and ensure common understanding of the subject matter among all stakeholders working on areas of diaspora engagement.
Key activities will include outreach campaigns and workshops for further dialogue on mapping and development strategies. Capacity building initiatives will build competencies to manage a project’s online database after the project’s completion.
The findings of this project will be presented to several donors to gather interest with the objective of soliciting funding for the envisioned second phase of this project which will consist in mobilizing the Ethiopian’s diaspora.
