The objective of this project is to improve the available information on the Mauritanian diaspora as well as develop a uniform registration system. This proposal is consistent with the National Migration Management Strategy, adopted by the Mauritanian Government in 2010.
This work will allow the coordination of efforts made by various governmental institutions (Agence Nationale pour l’Étude et Suivi de Projets (ANESP), the Ministry for Mauritanians Leaving Abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), to map the Mauritanian diaspora.
Project outputs that will contribute towards this objective include a launching ceremony in which the project will be presented to relevant stakeholders. Data will be analysed and a uniform registration system will be developed. A consultant will then convert the above-mentioned system into an online database. Furthermore, a communication campaign will be developed in order to inform the diaspora and invite its members to sign up. Training will be organised for various governmental institutions. Finally, the mapping of the Mauritanian diaspora will be published in order to present the information to all stakeholders.
The availability of the mapping will allow, within the context of a follow up project (Line 2), to adopt the necessary measures to mobilize the diaspora.
