This pilot project is part of the Migration for Development in Africa (MIDA) strategy. It constitutes a preliminary step to set up a larger programme aimed at enhancing the links between migrants and their country of origin.
The project will facilitate the profiling of Senegalese emigrants through an inventory of Senegalese abroad and create an information network by collecting data available in consulates and assessing their competencies necessary for the development of priority sectors in their country of origin. Furthermore, the project will assess statistics on Senegalese international migration available in Senegal and their main countries of destination.
The collection of data will concern demographic, socio economic and geographical statistics, which will allow the profiling of migrants, their relations with Senegal within various development fields and their participation in the Senegal development process (temporary return, remittances flux, transfer of knowledge and investments interests). It will also address the geographical changes which have occurred within the international migratory dynamics in Senegal.
