Completed
Approval of this request has enbaled the continuation of IOM’s presence in Angola for three months, starting in March 2002, for project development with the government in new areas of activity. Political development in 2002 resulted in deepening of the humanitarian crisis, intensifying displacement and the need for urgent services. Concurrent new developments on both the political and donor fronts increased the prospects for future IOM project activity in Angola, particularly in the following areas:
- a return of minors programme in partnership with a European Union country;
- community infrastructure development projects under discussion with EU donors; and
- additional activities under the CAP reintegration project reviewed by interested countries.
The additional USD 50,000 from the 1035 Facility allowed a three-month time frame to pursue and develop the noted prospects with the government.
