One of the main IOM strategies in South America is to support the free movement of people in the framework of the regional integration process in the MERCOSUR. The main objective of this project is therefore to strengthen the free mobility within MERCOSUR for the benefit of migrants, by working with Member States and Associated States of the MERCOSUR to ensure the promotion of appropriate conditions for migrants to access their rights. Specifically, the project will have four outputs:
1) Research on the implementation and impact of the 2002 MERCOSUR Residence Agreement, particularly on the access of migrants to their rights;
2) A study on migration dynamics at the border between Paraguay and Argentina;
3) A study on migration dynamics at the border between Brazil and Uruguay;
4) A compilation of good practices on the implementation of the 2002 MERCOSUR Residence Agreement.
This project will allow the Member States and Associated States of MERCOSUR to measure the impact of their main regional migration legal tool and will provide them with instruments to replicate good practices of citizen integration in the context of South-South cooperation. All cost related to non-eligible Member States will be covered by MERCOSUR.
