This pilot project focuses on the regularization of Nicaraguans currently residing in El Salvador. IOM will provide technical assistance to the Salvadoran and Nicaraguan Governments in their efforts to regularize Nicaraguan migrants and their families. Implementation will take place in a decentralized fashion, moving consular and Department of Migration and Foreigners (DGME) staff to the municipality of Santa Rosa de Lima located in the Department of La Unión. A Regularization Process and Procedures Manual will be developed to establish the required identity documents, service rates for regularization and other procedures to facilitate and expedite the regularization process. Finally, a media information campaign to raise awareness and encourage participation among the target parties will also be conducted. In addition, IOM will support the special needs of Nicaraguan migrants who do not have all the documents required for regularization or cannot afford to pay for the regularization process.
