This study aims to develop baseline information that will establish accurate data on the trafficking phenomenon in the East African region, with specific focus on Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi. In particular, the study will identify the means of victim recruitment, profile of traffickers, their recruitment routes and modes of transport and ascertain how victims are lured into the trade.

The data gathered will establish a solid foundation for future counter trafficking projects in the region. It is also hoped that the research findings will provide a basis for assisting governments to initiate the drafting of counter trafficking laws into national legislation, as well as sensitising them to the need to ratify the existing international treaties.
