In previous years, the Government of Bolivia has taken important steps to address trafficking in persons and human smuggling. Nevertheless, it is imperative to develop new and distinct policies to tackle trafficking in persons and human smuggling that are evidence-based, gender-sensitive and facilitate effective interinstitutional coordination.
In light of this context, this project, at the request of the Ministry of Justice and Institutional Transparency, aims to strengthen the capacity of the Government of Bolivia to address trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants and related issues, in this way contributing to the protection and respect of the rights of victims of trafficking and migrants in vulnerable situations. The project aims to achieve this objective through three main components: (1) development and drafting of two separate national policies, one addressing human smuggling and the other addressing trafficking in persons; (2) drafting of two multisectoral plans to address human smuggling and trafficking in persons, respectively; and (3) piloting of an implementation plan for Bolivian departments to facilitate the implementation of national policies on human smuggling and trafficking in persons at a local level.
