The Government of Eswatini fully acknowledges the importance of harnessing the valuable potential of its diaspora, and recognizes that the mobilization of the Emaswati diaspora requires determined efforts, constant and innovative outreach and collaborative strategies to establish regular communication channels that would allow involving diaspora members more prominently in various socio-economic projects. In light of this, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) aims to support the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Eswatini to strengthen the capacity of the government of Eswatini to engage with its diaspora for social and economic development. This project will help the Government of Eswatini to use new tools and mechanisms in line with international standards and best practices to engage with its diaspora and facilitate their participation in the social and economic development of the country. The project will support a diaspora skills mapping exercise that will help the government understand the diaspora, their interest and willingness to engage with the government for the development of Eswatini. In addition, the project will support the establishment of a Diaspora Unit within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation that will coordinate all diaspora affairs. Under this project an online diaspora engagement platform (official website, Facebook Page and a WhatsApp Group) will be created for dissemination of information about national development, as well as legislative and consular procedures, and eventually job postings and investment opportunities. The platform will allow Emaswati diaspora to register in the government diaspora database to enjoy benefits and exemptions to which they are entitled. During the implementation of this project, a Diaspora Forum will also be organized and the forum will be attended by Emaswati diaspora, members of the government, private sector, academia and other technical experts. The forum will culminate with the creation of the Emaswati Diaspora Network and members will use the diaspora engagement platform to maintain regular communication among themselves and the Government.
