The project is designed to strengthen the capacity of the Honduran Government in managing labour migration to foreign countries by enhancing the operational capacity of the Steering Committee for the Management of Temporary Labour Migration Programs. The long-term sustainability of this Steering Committee has been assisted through the signing of the “Acuerdo Operativo y de Cooperacion Tecnica para la Gestion de Programas de Migracion Laboral Temporal para Trabajos de Hondurenos en el Exterior” (February 27, 2007) and its Addendum for the creation of the Steering Committee for the Management of Temporary Labour Migration Programs (August 15, 2008) between the Government of Honduras and IOM.
Efforts will also be made to optimize the use of the Steering Committee’s database of information on possible applicants in order to ensure a rapid and quality response to foreign recruiting companies. The project will result in the adaptation of the Ministry of Labour’s recruitment database for foreign recruitment, the creation of a new page on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Webpage to inform the Honduran population (and others) about job opportunities abroad and how to apply and to improve the assistance provided to Honduran workers abroad by its Consulates.
