The main objective of this project is to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Government of Nicaragua to promote and ensure the protection of human rights of irregular migrants in transit through Nicaragua.
Project outputs that will contribute towards this objective include:
1) The rehabilitation of a Migrant Reception Centre to increase its capacity and reconfigure space to better accommodate migrants and allow for mainstreaming gender concerns;
2) Border control staff training to raise the standards of care for migrants, especially the most vulnerable and manuals to replicate the training;
3) Provision of material and equipment to the Migration School (Escuela Migratoria).
4) Study on the current situation of shelters for migrants in Central America, assessing the conditions, available services, directions and other relevant information.
